CARE Manager

Reports To: Director of Education and Public Programs. Collaborates with Curator of Education, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego and Deputy Director for Education and Interpretation, San Diego Museum of Art
The Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) seeks a highly detail oriented, innovative, and experienced education professional with strong leadership and organizational skills for the position of CARE Manager
The CARE Manager is responsible for developing, overseeing, and evaluating a coordinated arts program that brings the visual arts to students and teachers in elementary schools throughout the City of San Diego. This grant funded program is a collaboration between the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, the Museum of Photographic Arts and the San Diego Museum of Art. This position also works with a website developer in the creation of a visual arts website directed to teachers who will implement the lessons in the classroom and a related family website directed to students and their families to visit the three collaborating museums.
Chief responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Works with participating Museums in developing overall program, curriculum and lesson plans for each program component and related programs at three partnering museums.
- Acts as CARE and School program liaison with San Diego City Schools.
- Coordinates with the San Diego City Schools Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) office on selection of participating schools and creation of curriculum.
- Works with administrators of selected schools and individual artists to set up programs, meeting with them regularly to oversee and improve the program.
- Develops and administers evaluation instruments for each component of the program.
- Meets with teaching artists regularly and collaborates with them on individual school based projects
- Works with teaching artists to create the CARE curriculum in preparation for inclusion on the CARE website.
- Coordinates with participating museums on the development of the CARE website coordinating with the website manager to post information.
- Works with MoPA’s marketing department and with the other two museum education directors to promote and advertise the CARE program.
- Writes monthly reports about the content and evaluation of the CARE program; processes check requests and other financial aspects of the program.
- Works within MoPA on school, teacher, student and family related programs that includes training, planning, preparation and implementation.
- Manages the CARE budget, overseeing all program costs
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum B.A or B.F.A or equivalent in Art History, Studio Art, or Arts Education. Five years prior art teaching/museum education experience.
Additional Qualifications:
- Teaching credential, curriculum development, experience with teacher training institutes preferred. Familiarity with San Diego City Schools.
Skills Needed:
- General computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Photoshop. Excellent professional writing and communication skills. Detail oriented, patient and flexible.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other cultural institutions and with personnel in city elementary schools. Ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
